Hi Frances,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, you are right on the mark. The content must be good. We can publish easily these days, but that ease makes people think they can put information out without considering the utilitarian (or entertainment) value to the audience they are trying to reach. The result: there's a lot of bad content out there, and if an organization is guilty of this, it's bad for branding and attracting and retaining new customers (or audiences.) Generally, this also contributes to a flood of content, which makes it that more crucial to have good stuff that will stand out.

As an aside, that's why I enjoy working in B2B. The audiences I write for usually are interested in technical, policy or expertise-driven information, and I enjoy the work that goes into communicating that information. And readers seem to really appreciate it. Being a writer (or content producer) is a good job for the perpetually curious.

Hey Matt, thanks for the great distillation. Wendy Meyeroff is right on the mark for sure, but it's not a prediction - it's an observation! I see that happening now. And it's a good thing. Of course, the downloadable content and free giveaways have to be worthwhile too, or they'll have very shortlived success as well.

Joe,
Yes, hard to pick just a few. I tried to select a few points that have seemed especially relevant in the industries I typically serve. Thanks to you for a great post. Highly recommended reading.
